Transitioning from a legacy WAN to an SD-WAN seems like a no-brainer: centralized management, flexible access to the public cloud, path selection, reporting and analytics, easier SASE integration, zero touch deployment, and all at a lower cost! 💰

Each of these points is worthy of its own discussion, but this time we want to focus on the last point: Does an SD-WAN really lower network costs compared to a legacy WAN? There isn’t a blanket answer to this question, nor are the possible answers consistent.
SD-WAN can lead to cost savings by enabling the integration of lower-cost infrastructure in an effective manner. However, the main factor contributing to cost savings is in fact the cost of the existing legacy network, which has nothing to do with the new SD-WAN itself.
Things look very different when we take a step back and look at the solution as a whole: integrating services that run separately in a legacy design, such as Intranet and Internet traffic, Internet security, the ability to leverage Cloud applications, DC and server optimization, backup solutions, etc., can result in significant savings, but these are not easy to quantify, especially early in the project.

In summary: SD-WAN is worth it. But it's like a suit: it has to fit well to have a positive impact. And it has to be within the budget to be worthwhile.
We help our customers define the optimal solution, identify the benefits, and procure the best technology and services to ensure that the new SD-WAN fits well with our Customers' expectations - including their budget. That’s what we know and do best!
